There are four ways of including CSS styling information within a document, from least important(easily overridden) to most important(not overrideable) these are:
  • External stylesheet(s) whether imported or linked (we discuss this below)
  • Internal stylesheet, enclosed between <style> and </style> tags in the head section of your page.
  • Inline styles imposed on objects using a style= statement within their opening tag such as <P style="color:red; background:black; font-height:28px;">
  • style rules flagged with the key text !important such as "color:green !important;"
As well as this ordering the system also uses the principle of 'the nearest rule to the object to be displayed wins' - with the exception of any rule flagged !important which always wins.

This means that for example in this case:

Are you human?

6784 - 168 =

Whatever we do we cannot modify the value of bold which is flagged as important without editing the rule flagged as important. Of course if we remove the !important flags we can change when we like. In addition we can change style aspects (in this case font size) not flagged as important. Try it! Have a play with this code then hit the show my page button again.
